BEIJING, January 25 (TMTPOST) — Chinese game developer and publisher Perfect World (SHE: 002624) will soon launch the global version of Tower of Fantasy, a game that competes with Genshin Impact.
Launched in December 2021, Tower of Fantasy has lured over ten thousand players in one month and achieved revenue of nearly 500 million yuan.
Tower of Fantasy is an immersive open-world game developed by Hotta Studio and published by Perfect World. It is a role-playing game that encompasses gameplay mechanics like those in Genshin Impact and the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Tower of Defense’s main The game can be played both on PC and mobile devices. It is expected to drive Perfect World’s growth in 2022.
In the game, players play as an explorer on a planet that has experienced energy crises. The players are given the freedom to explore the open world in Tower of Fantasy and complete the main story. The game mainly cashes in through its weapon gacha system, which allows players to get different types of weapons to power up their characters.
Despite its proclaimed success, Tower of Fantasy has experienced a number of operation issues after the launch, drawing massive criticism from players. For example, Tower of Fantasy calculated the rewards that players get locally on players’ devices, which allows some players to manipulate the system and get unlimited gacha attempts. Players with knowledge of the loophole can easily get powerful weapons and even become stronger than players who have spent huge sums of money in the game. Players were also angered by Tower of Fantasy’s selective compensation plan as the game’s operation team only sent compensation rewards to players on popular servers. The game was also under heavy fire for not allowing players who have purchased a weekly or monthly pass to claim their rewards.
Perfect World’s share price surged temporarily after the launch of Tower of Fantasy and came down after the open beta test.
